This is the art work by Nick Wonham that accompanies the chapters of my full length children's story, "Bulging Blisterbugs! It's Jack's Toilet Adventure". This was the first book I wrote and, like all first books, showed me I had an awful lot to learn about the craft of writing. I admit it's not the best thing I've written (the title sort of gives that away), but it was fun to write, and was the start of my journey as a writer - and we've all got to start somewhere.
Chapter 1 - Jack and Professor Bob test the Oh-Oh - like a yo-yo but much more unpredictable!
Chapter 2 - Jack's teacher Mr Redwood, but his pupils call him Deadwood. Well? Wouldn't you too?
Chapter 3 - Sir Horatio's castle. Can you see the signal telescope? That's for sending Horse-Code messages to Professor Bob in his lighthouse down the coast.
Chapter 4 - Sir Horatio's favourite pastime - eating. Oh, he also likes sleeping, telling tall tales from his army days, and messing up Professor Bob's inventions.
Chapter 5 - Professor Bob's new invention - a cleaning machine called Colin (named after the coal bucket used for his head).
Chapter 6 - When Jack programs Colin to do his school punishment for him, he doesn't bargain for the machine cleaning Deadwood instead !
Chapter 7 - Look at the mess. Colin's gone on the rampage in the lighthouse and thrown out all their possessions. What can Jack do now?
Chapter 8 - Even Sir Horatio and Professor Bob suffer a cleaning by an out of control Colin. Mind those stairs!
Chapter 9 - Guzzling grapplesuckers! Time to show this jumped up bag of bolts what for. Come on troops!
Chapter 10 - Colin's cleaned and scrubbed and polished his way to the top of the lighthouse.
Chapter 11 - Colin's thrown Sir Horatio off the lighthouse, Tallulah's been knocked out and Professor Bob has been caught! What can I do now?
Chapter 12 - Things look bad for Jack. Until he has an idea...
...what's Jack's idea? He uses the coconut halves to cover Colin the robot's eyes making him stop. Jack is then able to escape. Sir Horatio is found hanging from the net under the balcony and every one else is bruised but unharmed. All's well that ends well!
