After a sixteen year corporate career as an IT manager in the City, I decided to spend a 'gap year' with my family and write a book. That one year became four as my wife turned me into a fully fledged househusband. I found it to be one of the most rewarding periods of my life, and I wrote about the experience in my blog Desperate Househusband, as well as completing a book of the same name.

During that time, when I wasn't writing, making packed lunches for the kids, or fetching my (teacher) wife a well earned cup of tea after a long day at school, I tutored community classes on Creative Writing and Current Affairs for North Hertfordshire College. Inspired by the learners on my courses, and with Bethany and Christian both in secondary education at the time, I decided to hang up my househusband apron. In September 2010 I began teaching Business Studies and Computing to 11 to 18-year-olds. My new daily routine may be teenager-tastic and extremely hard work, but I love every minute of it! And I must be doing something right as I'm now the head of department.

As for my writing, I'm the inventor of a rather unusual phonetic puzzlebook which I am currently pitching to publishers. Additionally, I'm an active committee member in Verulam Writers' Circle and editor of - and regular contributor to - their quality newsletter Veracity. I've done public speaking, led workshops and had a weekly guest slot on BBC Three Counties radio for a year called Writers' Block - educating and inspiring budding authors. I've had articles and short stories published too and, as if I wasn't busy enough, I have a growing fanbase on YouTube for my quirky squirrel obstacle courses.

I'm a regular attendee at the Hay Festival of Literature and the Swanwick Writers' Summer School. I also support several local literary initiatives and events each year, including being on the organising committee of VWC's annual Get Writing conference which boasts a stellar cast of bestselling authors, publishers and literary agents.

Oh yes. I also have a Ph.D. in Cosmic Ray Physics from the University of Nottingham. Just don't ask me why!
